Knitting On The Road Corrections

Are You Cut Out to Work From Home?   by Chrissy Dean

Working from home is the dream for many people around the world. With the current economy being what it is, you hear stories of job layoffs and companies going out of business almost daily. This seems to be causing a nationwide depression and panic.

I was raised and have always believed in looking for the up side of any situation, so my outlook on this current economic disaster is quite different from that of many others. I see this recession as a wonderful opportunity and reason to finally get started on that dream of working from home.

Losing a job is devastating to everyone, but it doesn’t have to be the end of the road or cause you to lose everything. In my case, it was exactly what I needed to free up time and loose all excuses. You CAN make money in this world by doing what you love. Everyone has a hobby or interest that can become their career if they know how to correctly use it. Some examples are painting, pottery, writing, knitting, jewelry making, woodworking, watching movies, listening to music, and even playing video games.

The first thing you need to do is decide what you love. You don’t have to be making or creating anything. Reviewing movies, TV shows, games, and music can be very profitable. If you do make things yourself, you don’t need a website or marketing budget. All you really need to work from home is motivation, self-discipline, and perseverance. Many companies are making a lot of money right now selling people the dream of getting rich quick. All you have to do is buy their program and watch the money roll in. But out of hundreds of thousands of purchases, many programs only have about ten success stories.

Being passionate about something already gives you drive to do it. If you already have a library of movies and critique every one with your family, why not start writing reviews for them? There are many ways to make money doing this. Either write for sites which pay you directly such as Associated Content, or write for sites which pay you through commission or advertising such as Squidoo, Blogger, or Hubpages. None of these sites cost any money to register, and I have made money with each one. Also, they pay through Paypal, which is free to use and doesn’t charge you any fee for claiming your money like some companies do. You can have a steady stream of income going very quickly. You will not be rich overnight and will not make money in you sleep, but it is a very excellent place to start.

Associate or network with people who love the same things as you and are successful with them. If you write poetry, it makes sense to join a forum or site full of people who love creative writing. This is for support, ideas, critique, and inspiration. But it can also be very helpful to get advice on making it a career. Many creative writers had to start with nothing, and they all can give you lots of help with building up an income through your work. This scenario is the same in any area of interest. If you love something almost to the point of obsession, chances are others do, too.

The most important thing about working from home is that it is work. Even if doing your hobby for a living doesn’t feel like work, in some aspects it needs to be treated as such.
