Knitting Yarns Uk
Knitting yarn – UK equivalent for Lionbrand Wool Ease?
Hello,
I’m a beginner knitter and have found a nice, easy throw that I’d like to try. It’s from the Lionbrand website. The yarns it uses are called Wool Ease and Wool Easet Thick and Quick.
Could anyone point me in the direction of a yarn available in the UK that is similar to the Lionbrand ones please?
This is the pattern:

It suggests that 8 stitches and 8 rows should be a 4″/10cm square on US size 17 (13mm) needles.
Thanks very much.
Thick & Quick is a super bulky yarn, about twice as thick as worsted weight. The Australian equivalent is 14 ply. I think the UK term is extra chunky &/or roving yarn. Look for this on the label:
9 stitches x 12 rows = 4″ (10 cm) on size 13 (9 mm) needles

I think Sirdar Bigga and Rowan Big Wool are good substitutes.
That pattern uses two different Lion Brand yarns: 5 balls of Thick & Quick and one ball each of two different colors of Wool-Ease (which is a worsted weight yarn). Sometimes you use just the Thick & Quick; other times you hold one strand of Wool-Ease with it.
That’s why the pattern gauge is different than the gauge on the Thick & Quick label. When substituting, you should match the numbers I gave above.
